Silver Mettle - The Light Within
Transparent Watercolours 20" x 28" | Arches 300 lb
This is about the beauty and wisdom of aging, the light within, the authentic self.
Silver here is not the metal but a metaphor to an age, and mettle as the courage to age gracefully. The essence of our selves is not apparent at a glance, our life's story, our accomplishments - our "light" - is within.
Elements such as twine are the dropped threads and paths undertaken, directions changed. The fabric represents our beginnings, our safety net, our supports. Pearls are hints of our inherent abilities and wisdom gained; broken beach glass the various elements that comprise our lives, things created, things discarded.
Broken shells, fallen shells, represent our changing bodies, still beautiful - more beautiful - when you take a closer look and shine a light on the unexpected beauty that lies beneath the surface ...
And one "silver" ball depicting the attainment of our wisdom, of being comfortable in our own skin.
